Jesper Kirstein established Kirstein A/S (formerly Kirstein Finansrådgivning A/S) in 1993 after a career including positions as a stockbroker and a managing director. The first well-defined area of business was pension analysis, and we were the first in Denmark to collect and record accounting data from Danish pension funds. This makes us the only company today that holds financial data on all pension firms in Denmark since 1990.
Our focus on pension funds naturally led to an interest in asset management and mutual funds, and Kirstein was the first company to analyse real return data for Danish mutual funds, and we were also the first in Denmark to conduct structured global searches and analysis of asset managers for institutional investors. Parallel to this, Kirstein began advising small and medium-sized institutional investors on investment strategy, selection of managers, etc.
In 2002, Kirstein conducted its first Investor Survey for Danish and international asset managers. The survey uncovers Danish investors' attitudes towards investments and asset managers. The Nordic region quickly became immersed in the universe of investors, followed by the Benelux countries, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and in 2015, the universe includes approximately 450 investors from Continental Europe. At the same time, the service has changed from being an annual survey to an ongoing consultancy service.
In 2014, we established K Invest, whitelabelling the best Danish and international asset managers in a Danish mutual fund.
In May 2015, Kirstein opened a subsidiary in Boston to service our clients even better. The Boston office is available for and services our wide span of both Danish and international clients.
The first employee was already hired in autumn 1993, and since then the amount of employees has grown steadily, but with a small halt during the financial crisis. Today, there are 26 employees at Kirstein.
